Those who gave their lives from Yarm ______________________________________

HARWOOD, Oliver William. Pte 22505 13th Yorks.

Return to Yarm Roll Call

The following was taken from the Yorkshire Regiment website

13 Apr 1918. Son of Charles Harwood, Millwright of Bentley Wynd. He had been born in Leeds and enlisted in Stockton early in the war while living at Yarm. Ploegsteert Memorial, Belgium [the date of death here is from CWGC/Soldiers Died. The Church Memorial gives 9 Apr. The unit went into billets on 13 Apr so it seems more reasonable that he was killed during a heavy gas attack on the 9th.

Yarm1914 believe that Oliver lived at 29 Beechwood Road, Preston-on-Tees in 1901 when he was 5. His father Charles was a millwright aged 30, mother Elizabeth commonly called Lily was also 30 and his siter Doris had just been born. In 1911 the family lived in a six roomed house in Bently Wynd and Oliver had left school and was an apprentice nurseryman.
